Pop-ups and banners let you greet the shoppers your affiliates send to your website with a tailored on-site message — for example, a card that reads “Sarah sent you 20% off” with the discount code ready to use. They appear directly on your own site, only to visitors who arrived through an affiliate link, which makes them a simple way to turn referred traffic into more sales. This is different from Affiliate announcements, which show up inside the affiliate portal that your affiliates log in to. Pop-ups and banners face the other way: they show to the customers your affiliates refer, on the site those customers are shopping. This page is a tour of how the feature works and where each setting lives, with links to the deeper guides.

Pop-up or banner

Every message you build is one of two types, and you pick which one first:
  • Pop-up — an overlay card that opens on top of the page. Best for a moment you want the visitor to notice right away, such as a welcome discount when they land.
  • Banner — a slim bar fixed to the top or bottom of the page. Best for a persistent reminder that stays visible without interrupting what the visitor is doing.
Both can show the referring affiliate’s name, their discount, a promo code, and a button that sends the visitor wherever you choose.

Open Pop-ups & Banners

In the left sidebar of your campaign, select Pop-ups & Banners. The page lists everything you’ve built, each card showing its type, status, and how many views and clicks it has picked up. To start a new one, select Create in the top right.

Create one

When you create a pop-up or banner, you first choose the type and give it a name, then select Continue. This opens the editor, which has two tabs and a live Preview beside them so you can see every change as you make it:
  • Setup — controls when the message appears, where on your site it shows, and which affiliates trigger it.
  • Design — the look and the words: layout, image, heading, body, promo code, button, colours, and corners.

Choose when and where it shows

The Setup tab decides the timing and placement:
  • When — show the message as soon as the page loads (with an optional delay), or the moment the visitor moves to leave. You also set how many times one visitor can see it.
  • Where — show it on every page, only on certain pages, or everywhere except certain pages, and choose its position on the screen.
For the full set of options, see Triggers and position.

Decide which affiliates trigger it

By default, any visitor referred by any affiliate can see the message. You can also limit it so it only appears for visitors sent by specific affiliates or by whole affiliate groups — useful when you want a different offer for different partners. See Target an audience.

Design the message

The Design tab is where you make it yours:
  • Layout — pick from a set of ready-made layout variants.
  • Image — show the affiliate’s profile picture, an emoji, or nothing.
  • Heading and body — write the copy, and drop in details that fill themselves in for each visitor, like the affiliate’s name, the discount value, or the promo code.
  • Promo code — show the referring affiliate’s actual code so the visitor can use it.
  • Button — add a call-to-action button with your own label and link.
  • Colours and corners — set the background, text, and button colours, and choose rounded or fully rounded corners.
The details that fill themselves in are written with double curly braces, such as {{affiliateName}}, {{discountValue}}, {{promoCode}}, {{affiliateEmail}}, and {{programName}}. When the pop-up shows, each one is swapped for the real value from the affiliate who referred that visitor.

Publish, pause, and manage

Each pop-up or banner has a status so you always know whether it’s live:
  • Draft — still being built and not shown to anyone. Select Publish to make it go live.
  • Active — currently showing to referred visitors. Use the toggle to switch it off.
  • Inactive — switched off and not showing.
From the list, the menu on each card lets you Edit, Duplicate (a fast way to spin up a variation), or Delete. Deleting is permanent and also removes that message’s view and click history.

Install it on your site

Pop-ups and banners are delivered by the same tracking script that powers your affiliate links. If you’ve already added that script to your website, they work automatically — there’s nothing more to install. If you haven’t, see Install the embed.

Availability

Pop-ups and banners are part of Referly’s engagement features and are available on the Business plan (and equivalent tiers). If you don’t see them in your sidebar, check your plan on the Add-ons page.
