# Create a campaign

> Create a content reward campaign in Referly: set the reward, schedule, budget, submission rules, and audience, then publish it for your affiliates to enter.

A campaign is a single content reward offer — "post a YouTube video about us," say. This page walks through creating one. For the bigger picture, see the [content rewards overview](/docs/help-center/gamify/content-rewards/overview).

## Create a campaign

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new campaign">
    Open **Content Rewards** in the left sidebar and select **Create Campaign** at the top right.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it and add requirements">
    Click the campaign name at the top to rename it (for example, *Release a YouTube video*). In the **Details** section, use the description to spell out what you want affiliates to post — the topic, any hashtags or links, and what a good post looks like.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the schedule and budget">
    Turn on a **Start date** and **End date** if the campaign should run for a set period, and switch on **Set a maximum budget** to cap the total you'll pay out (covered below).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the submission rules">
    In the **Submissions** section, choose how many entries an affiliate can make and, if you allow more than one, how often. See below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the criteria">
    In the **Criteria** section, pick **Social Metrics** or **Manual Submission** — how a post qualifies and how its reward is worked out. This is the heart of the campaign; see [Social metrics or manual review](/docs/help-center/gamify/content-rewards/criteria).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose who can take part">
    In the **Affiliates** section, set the audience: **All affiliates**, **Specific affiliates**, or **Affiliate groups**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Style it (optional)">
    On the **Style** tab, give the campaign an icon and colour or an image so it stands out in the portal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish">
    Select **Publish**. The campaign goes live and eligible affiliates can start submitting.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Setting a budget

Turn on **Set a maximum budget** to cap the total rewards paid across the whole campaign. Once that cap is reached, no further rewards are paid and new submissions are closed. If a reward would push you over the cap, it's trimmed to whatever budget is left — so you never overspend.

## Controlling submissions

In the **Submissions** section you decide how affiliates can enter:

* **Allowed submissions** — how many entries each affiliate can make, from 1 up to 100.
* **Submission window** — if you've set an end date, you can choose to open submissions only in the days leading up to it.
* **Submission frequency** — if you allow more than one entry, you can space them out: once a day, once a week, or once a month.

## Choosing the audience

* **All affiliates** — every active affiliate in your program can take part.
* **Specific affiliates** — only the affiliates you pick.
* **Affiliate groups** — only affiliates in the [groups](/docs/help-center/manage/affiliates/groups) you select.

The editor shows an **Eligible participants** count as you go, so you can see how many affiliates your choices reach.

## After you publish

A published campaign shows an **Active** status and a **Live** switch. Flip it to **Paused** at any time to stop new submissions without ending the campaign. When you publish, Referly may also offer to email eligible affiliates so they know the campaign is open.

You can reopen the editor whenever you like to adjust the reward, schedule, or audience.
