Target

Target, the major U.S. big-box retailer, ran a commission-based Creator Program launched in November 2023 that let creators build digital storefronts and earn commissions (reported up to 8%) on resulting sales. Target announced in April 2026 that it was sunsetting this affiliate program on May 7, 2026, replacing it with Club Target — a gamified, points-and-rewards model built around challenges rather than cash commissions. Because the traditional cash-commission affiliate program has ended, affiliates can no longer join it on its original terms.

Target is one of the largest general-merchandise retailers in the United States, and for a few years it operated a formal affiliate/creator program that paid cash commissions on sales driven through creator storefronts and trackable links. That program — the Target Creator Program — has ended. In April 2026 Target confirmed it was sunsetting the commission-based program, with the final close date of May 7, 2026, and replacing it with a gamified initiative called Club Target. This listing explains what the program was, what happened, and what the replacement means for affiliates.

About Target

Target Corporation is a mass-market retailer selling apparel, home goods, beauty, electronics, groceries and more across a large U.S. store footprint and Target.com. Its affiliate-facing operation was hosted at partners.target.com under the "Target Partners" branding, inviting creators to "recommend your Target finds & earn competitive commissions." The Creator Program launched in November 2023 and let creators build out digital storefronts, share products, and earn commissions on the sales they generated.

How the Target affiliate program worked

The now-closed Creator Program was a commission-based affiliate model. According to third-party reviews, it advertised commissions of up to 8% on qualifying Target sales, and it was described as free to join with an application/approval step — anyone could apply, but not everyone was accepted. Creators used trackable links and storefronts to earn on resulting purchases.

As of April 16, 2026, Target began notifying creators by email that the program would shut down on May 7, 2026. A Target spokesperson said the company was "sunsetting our Target Creator Program" to unveil "new programming that brings creators a more seamless experience and expanded tools."

The replacement, Club Target, is fundamentally different from a traditional affiliate program:

  • It is built around guided challenges that earn creators points redeemable for Target gift cards and products — not straightforward cash commissions.
  • It is open to U.S. creators with at least 500 social media followers.
  • It retains core affiliate features such as trackable links and storefronts.
  • Crucially, creators must advance through six points-based tiers before they become eligible to earn commissions on sales.

Target announced Club Target (alongside LTK creator programs) in a May 2026 corporate news post, describing it as "a multi-tiered program based on commissionable Target sales" with exclusive campaign offers. Example challenges include posting an Instagram story on new personal-care products or a TikTok "spring home refresh."

Who should promote Target

Because the classic cash-commission affiliate program is closed, the audience for what remains is narrower. Club Target is aimed at nano-creators (roughly 1,000–10,000 followers) and brand advocates who are happy to complete branded challenges and are motivated by gift cards, points and product rewards rather than immediate, predictable cash payouts. Target's move follows Gap, Urban Outfitters and American Eagle, all of which launched similar gamified programs targeting smaller creators.

Affiliates who rely on cash commissions and content-site monetization (coupon sites, review blogs, deal aggregators) will likely find the new gamified model a poor fit, since commission eligibility now sits behind six points-based tiers. Those creators may prefer to promote Target inventory through LTK or other retail affiliate networks instead.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Target is a trusted, high-recognition U.S. retailer with a huge, broad product catalog that is easy to recommend.
  • The former program was free to join and open to applicants.
  • The successor Club Target retains trackable links and storefronts and still references "commissionable Target sales."
  • Low follower barrier (500) to join Club Target.

Cons

  • The commission-based Creator Program ended on May 7, 2026 — you cannot join it on its original terms.
  • The replacement, Club Target, rewards points/gift cards rather than reliable cash commissions.
  • Creators must climb six tiers before earning sales commissions — a significant barrier for monetization-focused affiliates.
  • Cookie duration, payout schedule, minimums and exact commission structure for the new program are not publicly confirmed.

In short: if you're evaluating Target as a cash affiliate opportunity, note that the straightforward commission program has been discontinued. The current path is Club Target, a gamified, rewards-first program better suited to engaged nano-creators than to conversion-focused affiliate publishers. Verify current terms directly with Target before investing time.
